Melissa + Owen: The Wedding

" A Thousand Years"
by Boyce Avenue

Time stands still

beauty in all she is

I will be brave

I will not let anything
Take away
What's standing in front of me
Every breath,
Every hour has come to this

One step closer

I have died every day

Waiting for you

Darling don't be afraid
I have loved you for a
Thousand years
I'll love you for a
Thousand more

To the bride who loves blue cheese,

Summer 2013, I met a Polaroid enthusiast called Lewis, at a Polaroid walk in Fitzroy organised by  Film Never Die. Lewis told me a lot about Polaroid, although I didn't understand half of the technical parts that he was sharing with me. I love how life is full of surprises. Who would have guessed that two years after that chat, he recommended my wedding blog to his son, Owen who was planning to get married to Melissa.

Owen and Melissa met 10 years ago and been together since. During a girl's trip in Singapore, Owen flew over and gave Melissa a sweet surprise proposal. How sweet is this man!  And this good looking couple are so easy going. During our first meetup, I remember Melissa kept nodding her head:" Yup, I am happy." on most of the suggestions I've given for the photoshot.

In the morning of the wedding day, when I was busy arranging and shooting the wedding bands, shoes, bridesmaids' dresses and etcetera, I overheard Melissa saying this to Bonnie the hair stylist:" Wei Wei is very good. We are very happy with her." Upon hearing that, I immediately felt peace in my heart. Just because she trusted me, I could not only perform better, but also enjoy myself more while doing the photoshoot. Thank you so much Melissa!

It was definitely a "blue-cheese-day". While getting her hair done, Melissa put a piece of blue cheese with cracker into her mouth and confessed that she dreamt about blue cheese last night. The moment when I saw her wedding dress, I knew she has a good taste. The dress suits her perfectly. I could just keep photographing the details on her dress. Thanks to Melissa, I have my first experience riding in a Limousin. It was fun watching the girls opening champagne in the limo, having a few glasses and looking at the Polaroid photos that I took earlier. The radio dj were saying that if anyone is getting married today, the weather is just perfect.

When we arrived outside the Treasury Building, I saw the boys were walking towards the building. "The boys are here!" I said. Melissa and the bridesmaids went hiding at the back of the building, because Owen was not suppose to see Melissa until she walked down the aisle. That was such a funny moment. But the silly thing that Gary and I did was even funnier... I left Melissa and rushed into the building with Gary because we had to set up our gears for the ceremony. We rushed into the room and saw that all guests were seated and looking serious. We put our bags beside the room, but somehow I felt strange... So I asked the person next to me:" Is this Melissa and Owen's wedding?" Holy moly, I heard NO for the answer! Sh*t! We quickly grabbed our bags and left the room. It was so awkward that the groom was standing at the other corner, watching two silly photographers rushed in where his bride was supposed to walk in.. Hahaha!

Reception was a cocktail party at The Deck, Brighton. There was a lot of blue cheese being served as starter, oh dear I thought I had to starve for the whole night because I am not a fan of dairy produce, haha! I love that Melissa and Owen went for a cocktail party, because everyone get to hang around and chat. Melissa shed a few happy tears while she was giving her speech. Kirsten and Caitlin were standing on my right side:" Wei Wei! Make her laugh! Make her do sexy pose!" Haha because the whole day I was asking the bridal party to pose sexy pose for the photos, so they teased back.

It was a perfect day with a perfect weather, perfect bridal party and perfect couple. And the night was followed by very fun dancing, everyone got involved on the dance floor.

A month after their wedding, Gary and I were back to Kuantan, Malaysia to celebrate Chinese New Year. Owen and Melissa moved to Kuala Lumpur after their wedding. We were so happy to have them spending two days with us in Kuantan. We had quality time to get to know each other better, besides eating good food, sightseeing and Chinese New Year gambling. Thank you so much for saying yes in spending your holiday with us and thank you for the friendship! I wish both of you a fruitful career in Kuala Lumpur and please be our tour guide in Bangsar area :D

PS: Another funny thing was when the bridesmaids were walking, the whole day their middle split dresses were like "curtains" being "opened" by the wind haha!
